Described in contemporary advertising (1938 Esterbrook Catalog) as: "Razor sharp for retouching, erasing and cutting. Fits into all penholders. Of invaluable aid to the user of fine line pens. Gray finish"
The Esterbrook Project describes this nib as a straight body with a trowel-shaped head and pinched waist. Gray. ... The scratch knife was the original eraser. It was used to scrape ink off vellum (animal skin) to correct mistakes.
Versions
There are no additional versions of the Esterbrook #331 Scratch Knife in the Chappy's Nibs collection, as pictured below (gray-finish).
