Described in contemporary advertising ([http://www.zanerian.com/ZanCat.html Zanarian]) as: "Speedball's Round Pointed Pens. No. 59. University. Fine point. Moderate action. Very popular."
''Hunt's Centennial Historical Tour'' ([http://www.dvrbs.com/camden/CamdenNJ-CHowardHuntPenCo.htm DVRBA]) was a booklet describing the C.H.Hunt Pen Co's history, including a section on their Speedball-branded Linoleum Block Printing products: "In 1936, Hunt became America's first large manufacturer of inexpensive accessories for linoleum block printing, a popular school craft. Henry Frankenfield, printmaker and art educator, developed this line. In 1937, Hunt began to sponsor the National Scholarship Award, for categories such as linoleum block prints, lettering and pen and ink drawings, and still sponsors talented young artists."

[http://hans.presto.tripod.com/nibs/Speedball.html The Blam Nib site] explains that C. Howard Speedball's Pen Company began to manufacture pens in Camden, New Jersey in 1899. The factory moved to Statesville, NC in 1958. Since 1997 the Speedball Pens are manufactured by the Speedball Art Products Company. (Although Speedball still produces dip nibs, the 59 University nib is not currently produced.)
