Speedball 2
Described in contemporary advertising (Zanarian) as: "Speedball's Round Pointed Pens. No. 59. University. Fine point. Moderate action. Very popular."
The Blam Nib site explains that C. Howard Speedball's Pen Company began to manufacture pens in Camden, New Jersey in 1899. The factory moved to Statesville, NC in 1958. Since 1997 the Speedball Pens are manufactured by the Speedball Art Products Company. (Although Speedball still produces dip nibs, the 59 University nib is not currently produced.)
Versions
There are two distinct versions of the Speedball 59 nib in the Chappy's Nibs collection:
- Version 1: the company marking is Speedball
- Version 2: the company marking is C.H.Speedball PEN CO., and U.S.A. moves from lateral endcap to 4th line
(These version names are defined for this collection alone, and are not necessarily industry-wide terms.)
The nib pictured below is Version 1.
